"I'm really enjoying your cello. My other one is going through a 'difficult to play" stage, so yours is bringing me a lot of pleasure."

Sharon Robinson - Kalichstein Laredo Robinson Trio

Cellos

It was with a heavy heart that, due to health reasons, I was forced to retire from actively making new instruments. I still work with Borman owners to keep their instruments in top condition.

The cello model that I most commonly used was based on the "Davidov" Stradivari. This is the ex-Jacqueline du Pres and current instrument of Yo-Yo Ma. This model is able to to produce the rich, full lower end that most consider a sound trait of the Montagnana and Gofriller celli yet doing so without their excessive girth.

As opposed to the current trend of modern cello makers to use willow and other less expensive woods for the back, ribs and scroll, I always made my instruments with only the finest maple woods.

I have been a violin maker for 44 years and I am proud of the reputation I have built. I am especially proud of the fact that many of today's most well known musicians have acquired multiple instruments of mine over the years; affirming the fact that not only do my instruments retain their sound quality but that they improve with time. Although I have retired due to medical issues, I continue to maintain my instruments for their owners and occasionally help with resales.
